As President of the Texas Association of African America Chambers of Commerce (TAAACC). The accomplishments we have made on our initiatives during 2011 have brought me a great deal of personal satisfaction and has contributed to the shaping of TAAACC that I believe is efficient, flexible and better prepared for meeting the needs of our small businesses. I look forward to continuing this process with the support of our Board, as well as the eighteen member chambers of TAAACC and nearly ten thousand small businesses whose hard work is central to our mission.
We all know that these have not been easy times for business in this state. TAAACC has a long tradition of creating opportunities both in the public and private sector. Our focus in the coming year is to make sure we continue to have a robust pipeline of contracts which will provide opportunities for our qualified members.
We will continue the growth of our programs and provide opportunities for more minority owned businesses. We will continue to focus on sustainability, and wealth accumulation with increased net assets being a goal. We will continue to pursue legislative proposals that will increase our client base while we also streamline and refine our own internal processes.
TAAACC's challenge this year is to increase the number of African American businesses doing business with state, school districts, hospital districts, as well as with local governments. I believe that this is a challenge to all of us – a call to fine tune the way we do business, making us that much better prepared for the opportunities which lie ahead.
The Texas Associate of African American Chambers of Commerce (TAAACC) “The Voice and Resource for African-American Chambers of Commerce and the Business Community” has no registered lobbyist; however, we are appreciative to our legislative advisors that assist in our legislative efforts.
Texas is a great state with great people and prospects, and certainly we can always spend public money more efficiently. But we should not miss the opportunity to prepare for a future with better education and training, resulting in rising incomes and greater opportunities.
Texas Associate of African American Chambers of Commerce (TAAACC) policy is to monitor the political landscape to assure all businesses have the opportunity to succeed in Texas. Also, TAAACC places special emphasis on small mom and pop businesses that are HUB’s or DBE’s and advocate for policies that allow greater participation based on the current “Disparity Study”.
We pray God’s blessing on the great state of Texas, and I look forward to working with you, and I hope to see you during the 2012 TAAACC Annual Conference this fall (September).
Sincerely,
Jim Wyatt
